About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Bayside, NY, Avli the Little Greek Tavern offers an authentic taste of Greece with a warm, inviting atmosphere that beckons food lovers from near and far. Specializing in traditional Greek and Mediterranean fare, this charming restaurant brings the rich flavors of the Aegean straight to your plate, making every visit a memorable culinary journey.

The menu at Avli is a celebration of Greece’s most beloved dishes, each bursting with freshness and vibrant flavors. Whether you're starting off with their creamy tzatziki and warm pita bread or indulging in the flaky, savory layers of their spanakopita platter served with fresh vegetables, the appetizers alone set a high standard. Soup lovers will appreciate comforting classics like avgolemono—a traditional chicken lemon soup with orzo—and hearty faki, a lentil soup that warms you from the inside out.

The star of the show lies in their expertly marinated and grilled meats. The chicken souvlaki and tender pork souvlaki showcase top-notch grilling techniques that lock in juicy flavors and the fragrant hint of herbs. Equally enticing are their vertically roasted gyro and chicken doner, each bite layered with perfectly balanced spices and a satisfying tenderness that invites you to savor every mouthful. For those craving something special, the rack of lamb platter and lamb chops with sweet potato fries provide a robust, hearty option rich with smoky char and succulent textures.

Seafood lovers won’t be disappointed either. The fried kalamari comes perfectly crispy with a tender, flavorful center, while the salmon with lemon potatoes is a zesty, vibrant dish that harmonizes citrusy brightness with the delicate richness of fresh fish. Meanwhile, the onion rings offer a satisfying crunch, a great sidekick to any main course.

Complement your meal with their refreshing house-made Red or White Sangria, each glass a fruity, crisp finish that balances the richness of the dishes beautifully. For dessert, the beloved baklava steals the spotlight with its honeyed layers of flaky pastry and crushed nuts—a perfect sweet note to end your Greek feast.

What truly elevates Avli is the ambiance—a cozy yet lively tavern feel that makes it ideal for intimate dinners or cheerful gatherings with family and friends. Guests frequently remark on the friendly and attentive staff who make every visit comfortable and welcoming.

Longtime patrons like Zarina rave about the authenticity and consistent quality that keep bringing them back year after year, particularly highlighting the unbeatable tzatziki and the traditional dishes that stay true to their roots. My favorite Greek restaurant! I've been coming here for many years already. I'm definitely a regular & I'm always recommending this place. Food is authentic. Great ambience, and it's very delicious! Love the red sangria! I recommend getting traditional Greek food here. The best tzatziki is found here. Don't believe me, then go ahead and try and tell me yourself my other favorites are the moussaka( both the beef and the vegetarian option)! So delicious. the chicken soup & lentil soup are amazing! The spinach pie is also my favorite here (get lemon on the side) Inside and outside dining available. Love the traditional Greek music they play in here. Makes you really feel like you're in Greece. Highly recommend to make your way here.

Solid 4.5 and easily some of the best Greek food in the area and on par with what can be found in Astoria. I really enjoyed the grilled calamari, trio of dips and the string beans special. The lemon potatoes are always really solid, I prefer them a bit more charred. Highly recommend if in the area.

One of the best Greek places in Bayside. Flavors are robust, portions are generous and pricing is affordable. Souvlaki here is a must; the herbs and the marinade combined with it being roasted to perfect, you couldn't ask for a better meal. The staff were super nice and there was almost no wait to get a seat here. Parking is gonna be a pain as it's directly on Bell Blvd, but you might be able to find some street parking nearby. A must go for any Greek fans!

Amazing greek and mediteranean food! Portions were really big and tasty! Staff were super friendly as well and the atmosphere was great! Highly recommend for a good dinner with friends or family - portions can easily be shared and there is a big variety in what you can choose from. No matter what, you will not go wrong, it tastes amazing! Definitely try the souvlaki though!

I’ve walked past this place frequently since it opened but never had the opportunity to try it. My husband and I walked past again and decided today was going to be the day we give it a try and safe to say, it was a hit! We ordered the saganaki as our appetizer and were a bit confused when we first got it because we thought it would be paired with a pita of some sort but it tasted delicious on its own. Despite how good it was, we don’t think it was worth $12 so probably won’t be ordering that again in the future. We definitely will be returning for the combination platter though! For ~$26 you get to choose 4 meats from the menu (with exception of the skirt steak that might come with an additional fee). Plus, a choice of a soup or salad, a choice of fries, rice, or lemon potatoes, and tzatziki sauce and pita. The portions were also super generous and this felt like a meal well spent. Will definitely be returning!

I had dinner with my girlfriends. Excellent food and service. Besides we loved that they didn’t rush us! We will come often. Most of the time I have come for lunch. As to tea, they only have Lipton tea. No variety of teas, specially no mint tea considering it’s a Mediterranean restaurant. It has beautiful backyard option. However it was way too humid and hot to enjoy the outdoors area. PS reasonable prices and many choices.
